Transhumancias

Transhumancias is an interdisciplinary show for ten musicians, a dancer and sound installation.
It was born from the desire to investigate the relationship between traditional music (specifically Spanish) and medieval music. The further back in time one goes, the more blurred the dividing line between the “cult” repertoire and the popular repertoire becomes, making it difficult to identify a certain origin for many musical pieces.
Developed by Ballarte Ensemble, Transhumancias is a show strongly linked to the pastoral tradition of the Spanish Pyrenees and the imaginary associated with it. The connection with the Iberian culture is not only found in the choice of repertoire: in Bisaurri (Huesca), the place designated for the premiere of this work, the practice of transhumance has a millenary life. The route that passes through this village is the oldest documented in Europe. A show that, both in its concept and aesthetics, is rooted in a way of life that is both local and global, and that can act as an ambassador and witness of traditions still alive in a contemporary key and suitable for both rural and metropolitan audiences.
