El gran sarao del mundo
“El Gran Sarao del Mundo” arises from the desire to explore the connection between music and text in the Spanish Golden Age, specifically in Calderón de la Barca’s theatrical form known as “autos sacramentales”. These works, rich in music, inspire the creation of a contemporary dialogue where the playful and festive spirit of the 17th century comes alive. Using “The Great Theater of the World” as a base, the work fuses theater and concert, intertwining both languages in an indivisible way. The musicians are not mere accompanists, but actors who sing and play, integrated into the plot.
The play addresses Calderón’s universal questions, leaving aside his religious burden to explore human life: How to live our role in the world? How to interact without a script? How to accept the reality of life and turn it into a great universal celebration? The proposal is a deep, punk and beautiful party, exploring the human essence and its connection with existence.
